Civil rights attorney Catherine Spear to take on Vice President role at University of Southern California

Stanton Chase Los Angeles has completed the search for the Vice President for Equity, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX at the University of Southern California (USC), led by Bill Brewer, Director, and Nancy Jernigan, Ph.D., Director.

Civil rights attorney Catherine Spear will assume the newly created position of Vice President for Equity, Equal Opportunity and Title IX, Senior Vice President of Human Resources Felicia Washington announced in a University wide email. Spear will manage USC’s equity efforts and compliance with civil rights laws as head of the Office of Equity, Equal Opportunity, and Title IX, which will replace and combine the existing Title IX Office and Office of Equity and Diversity. Specifically, Spear will have primary responsibility for the University’s Title IX Program, Affirmative Action Plan, and Equal Opportunity Report, as well as related programs and commitments required by federal and state laws, executive orders, and university policies.

“She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, and I look forward to adding her expertise to our team of dedicated campus professionals in helping USC continue to confront discrimination in all of its forms,” Washington stated.

Brewer and Jernigan presented an initial slate of top candidates within 30 days of the search’s launch that included the finalist. These individuals are known for being influential leaders in the equity, diversity, inclusion, and Title IX from around the country.

With Stanton Chase launching its Global Diversity Practice in 2011, Brewer and Jernigan are honored to work with organizations with a passion to grow and expand their influence in the equity, diversity, and inclusion arena.
